Formula 1 competitor Liam Lawson disclosed he came dangerously close to a potentially deadly incident during Sunday's Mexico City Grand Prix when two safety personnel darted across the track right in his path

The concerning event took place on the third lap when safety workers were spotted on the circuit as Lawson was returning to the race following an early pitstop to swap his damaged front wing

Shortly afterward, Racing Bulls driver Lawson spoke to his race engineer saying: "Are you kidding me? Did you just see that? I could have... killed them"

"I genuinely couldn't process what I was witnessing"

"I came out on a fresh hard compound tires, and then I arrived at Turn One and suddenly there were two dudes dashing across the track"

"I almost collided with one of them, honestly, it was extremely hazardous"

"In the third rotation, marshals were notified and placed on standby to go onto the racing surface and clear the fragments once the entire field had cleared the area"
