Paul ‘Bonehead’ Arthurs to Miss Tour Leg for Cancer Treatment
The guitarist Paul “Bonehead” Arthurs has stated he will be absent from a leg of his band’s reunion tour as he begins treatment for a prostate cancer diagnosis.
Tour Dates Affected
The 60-year-old musician, a founding member of the group, confirmed he will not be performing at the upcoming shows in Seoul, Tokyo, Melbourne and Sydney.
The Seoul concert is set for 21 October, with subsequent dates in Tokyo on 25-26 October, Melbourne on 31 October, 1 and 4 November, and Sydney on 7-8 November.
Health Update
In a online statement, he shared that he was diagnosed prostate cancer at the start of the year and is reacting positively to treatment.
“Early this year I was diagnosed with prostate cancer. The good news is I’m reacting very positively to treatment, which allowed me to participate in this amazing tour.
“Now, I am needing to take a planned break for the next phase of my treatment, so I’ll be unable to attend the gigs in Seoul, Tokyo, Melbourne and Sydney. I’m really sad to be absent from these events but I’m feeling good and will be returning prepared in time for the South American leg.”
Previous Health Challenge
This is not his first health battle. In 2022, Arthurs disclosed he had been diagnosed with tonsil cancer.
At that time, he stated: “Just to inform everyone I’m going to be taking a break from playing for a while. I have been diagnosed with a tonsil cancer. But the good news is it’s manageable and I will be starting a course of treatment soon.”
Career Highlights
Arthurs was a member in the band The Rain with the frontman in the start of the 90s before they recruited the singer’s brother, Noel, who subsequently demanded they change their name.
He featured on three albums with the band, including the era-defining Definitely Maybe and (What’s the Story) Morning Glory?, before leaving in 1999 during the recording of the next record, Standing on the Shoulder of Giants.
Arthurs subsequently became part of Liam Gallagher’s band temporarily and has frequently played on stage with Liam during his individual projects, most recently at the UK music festivals in 2021.
He also formed the group Parlour Flames and served as a radio DJ after his period in the band.
