PSG Edges Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Lift French Super Cup in the Middle East.

Trophy celebration scene

PSG has now won the season-opening trophy on fourteen separate times.

Paris Saint-Germain needed a dramatic leveler followed by a successful spot-kick decider to get past their arch-rivals in the Gulf and capture a fourth straight French Super Cup title.

The European champions seemed to be coasting towards a straightforward triumph in the showdown between the Ligue 1 champions and the French Cup winners after the French winger opened the scoring early on.

However, the southern French side fired twice in the closing moments to take a surprise advantage. Initially, the English forward converted from the penalty spot, before Willian Pacho unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a breathtaking twist of events, the Portuguese striker grabbed a vital equaliser in the final seconds to send the contest into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Chevalier then emerged as the hero, stopping decisive kicks from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

From the spot, Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all converted successfully for PSG to complete a 4-1 penalty victory.

Now 14-time winners PSG, who met last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Marseille after completing a domestic double, have now lifted this competition for the twelfth time in the last 13 seasons.
