A 14-year-old boy was found dead just days following being wrongly blamed of taking the cremated remains of a dead infant during a break-in, an inquest has heard.

Tragic Discovery

The young boy's mother and father discovered his remains in his room at his Connah's Quay home on November 19th, 2021.

False Allegations Start

The inquest heard how his mother received a message on November 8th, 2021 via social media, from a individual inquiring if Kai was her child. The message stated: "Inform him thanks for burgling my flat."

In a statement read to the court, Lisa Lloyd said the woman had been in the news, asserting her baby's remains had been stolen in a break-in - a allegation which was untrue.

Law Enforcement Investigation

An official inquiry from authorities later concluded the alleged burglary victim had "provided false information" and "it now appears that said items was never taken in the first place".

News coverage about the alleged taken ashes generated social media responses, and although the teenager was not named in the posts, his mother said individuals "knew it was him".

The "online posts were extremely upsetting", she stated.

Emotional Wellbeing Impact

She added that her son had been diagnosed with mild attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, and as part of that condition, other individuals' opinions genuinely were important to him.

"This must have affected him severely," she commented, "particularly when this was not true".

The teenager was detained at home, but no evidence was found. He was taken to a police station and later released pending further inquiry.

Authorities said they would be in contact, the inquest learned, but had not reached out to the relatives by the time of his death.

Withdrawal and Anxiety

His mother said Kai "became isolated" after the arrest and "repeatedly inquired me whether I had heard anything from the authorities", because his ADHD meant sometimes "certain periods could seem like days".

When she spoke to him about the supposed incident, she said her child informed her he had entered the house because the woman who resided there had said he could use the bathroom whenever he wanted, but denied taking anything.

Digital Bullying

In a joint statement between her and her spouse, the mother said her son was being bullied digitally after the allegations.

The inquest heard that one 19-year-old urged the teenager to kill himself.

She had no worries on the night before he died, describing how she had heard him "laughing and teasing".

She described him as a "caring, affectionate" boy, and said her "family is totally devastated".

He had been "clearly concealing his concerns", she stated, adding that he could not stand to have anyone "think bad of him".

School Reaction

The hearing received testimony from school personnel at Connah's Quay secondary school.

On 8 November, she "overheard some boys talking that the student had been detained and that was the initial I learned".

"He informed me... he'd was innocent," she continued.

After the conversation, the staff member said she called Kai's parents' telephone and provided a voicemail saying she had communicated to the student about the allegations.

The proceedings learned his parents said they did not got that message.

Official Finding

Lead coroner told the inquest he would wait for reports regarding what enhancements had been made to handling suspects with the condition, before deciding whether he should make a avoidance of subsequent deaths report.

Providing a narrative finding, he said: "Approximately November 8th, 2021, unsupported allegations were made against Kai Benjamin Lloyd, a 14-year-old individual.

"Likely untruths were subsequently exaggerated and amplified through the medium of social media.

"During November 11th, he was interviewed by the police and after his questioning he was freed whilst inquiries continued."

The official determined: "Exists no proof that the actions or omissions of any organization led to or added to his passing and although it was the result of a self-inflicted act it is not possible to determine his intent."
